The stories haunt us all: A pet parent returns to their car to find their beloved pet dead from heatstroke. But dozens such real-life incidents are reported every year, and according to major veterinary and advocacy organizations, unreported deaths far outnumber the ones we hear about.
In most cases, there's not just one victim: the dead pet (frequently more than one) leaves a heartbroken, guilt-ridden parent. When the weather is warm, every time we leave our pet for some quick errands or a family meal, we risk returning as that parent.
ChillyDoggy prevents such tragedies by creating a "cool cell" to keep your pet safe and comfortable for hours, even in a closed car parked in the sun with soaring cabin temperatures. The ChillyDoggy app also keeps you informed of up-to-the-moment conditions in the bubble.
ChillyDoggy has recently been selected to participate in the StartUp Worcester Innovation Incubator, and is engaged with a prestigious Boston-area innovation accelerator for development into a consumer product. We are looking forward to sharing our progress toward saving pets' lives and parents' hearts.

Trotsky 2014-2019
10:09 am (Test Start) - With outside temperature running around 75°F, thermometers indicate comparative temperature/humidity inside the ChillyDoggy kennel ("Enclosure") and the vehicle cabin ("Ambient").
Trusty Subaru Forester is ChillyDoggy PosterPup 'Cuda's daily driver. Light color and dark-tinted windows make it fairly resistant to solar radiation, but like any other metal box, inside temperatures climb quickly under the rising sun...
Barely 20 minutes since the Test Start, with outside temperature still just 80°F cabin temperature is up to 100°F - the cusp of hyperthermic conditions for pets. - ChillyDoggy kennel temperature has declined, despite heat buildup in the car.
Very early ChillyDoggy prototype is the bare-bones device, but essential function and principles will be carried through to production. Powered only by 12-Volt DC current, the quiet, ultra-efficient AC unit defies the Power of the Sun to regulate temperature and humidity in the kennel.
11:10 am - One hour after Test Start, outside temperatures are close to 90°F. The cabin is well above heatstroke tipping point (~108°F). ChillyDoggy has opened up a surprising 30.1°F "cool cushion" within the scorching vehicle cabin.
The daunting technical challenge is fighting the unlimited power of the sun with scant, battery-stored, low-voltage current. A vehicle's AC system is powered directly from the running engine, consuming 3-5 horsepower - a fraction of the engine's output, but a multiple of even a large battery's stored energy. To overcome the quantum disadvantage, ChillyDoggy makes the most of every electron, precisely manages heat and cold, uses design to advantage, and efficiently processes information.
After nearly an hour-and-a-half, cabin temperature pushes to 120°F. The ChillyDoggy kennel has warmed too, but is still well below the hyperthermic tipping point. Amazingly, ChillyDoggy is beating the heat, and the "cool cushion" has widened slightly to 30.2°F,
Even in temperate New England, the midday temperature is often considerably hotter than forecast. Unexpected weather conditions are one commonly unforeseen contingency that endangers pets, despite their parents' preparations. At 100°F, even rolled-down windows can't prevent perilous heat buildup in a car's interior.
Vehicle cabin temperature has climbed higher yet as the test comes to its planned two-hour conclusion. Kennel temperature is warmer, but still 10° below hyperthermic, with the "cool cushion" up to 31° under direct summer sun. Inside the ChillyDoggy kennel, our imaginary pet is outside the danger zone.

ChillyDoggy seamlessly integrates an innovative low-voltage AC device, precise energy management, remote monitoring and control via app, and elegant design to safely isolate your pet from the "oven" effect of solar radiation on your vehicle's interior temperature.
When an animal's physiological cooling mechanisms are unable to maintain regular body temperature (dogs 100-102.5°F) while warm ambient conditions are adding heat, the body temperature rises uncontrollably, causing heat exhaustion (104°F) and heatstroke (108°F), which can cause lasting injury and death.
Generally, in any closed or poorly ventilated space in extreme local heat, or under direct sun even in temperate climes. The highest risks are inside parked cars and campers, docked or moored boats, small training and kenneling enclosures, unventilated rooms, etc.
Any heatstroke event exacts a toll on the body. Severity depends on how long the pet was exposed to the hyperthermic conditions. If the exposure was acute, then lasting tissue damage in major organs is likely, and may permanently affect its daily vigor and ability to withstand other physiological stressors.
